چکیده

The purpose of this study was two-fold: (1) demonstrate a technique that can be used to directly estimate the inertial properties of a below-knee prosthesis, and (2) contrast the effects of the proposed technique and that of using intact limb inertial properties on joint kinetic estimates during walking in unilateral, transtibial amputees. An oscillation and reaction board system was validated and shown to be reliable when measuring inertial properties of known geometrical solids. When direct measurements of inertial properties of the prosthesis were used in inverse dynamics modeling of the lower extremity compared with inertial estimates based on an intact shank and foot, joint kinetics at the hip and knee were significantly lower during the swing phase of walking. Differences in joint kinetics during stance, however, were smaller than those observed during swing. Therefore, researchers focusing on the swing phase of walking should consider the impact of prosthesis inertia property estimates on study outcomes. For stance, either one of the two inertial models investigated in our study would likely lead to similar outcomes with an inverse dynamics assessment.

Dynamics of a Running Below-Knee Prosthesis Compared to Those of a Normal Subject

The normal human running has been simulated by two-dimensional biped model with 7 segments. Series of normal running experiments were performed and data of ground reaction forces measured by force plate was analyzed and was fitted to some Fourier series. The model is capable to simulate running for different ages and weights at different running speeds. A proportional derivative control algorit...

مقایسه میزان رضایت بیماران از اندازه‌های ابعادی سوکت در 3 روش قالب‌گیری پروتز

Below knee amputation, which is noticed as one of the most common lower extremity amputations, is caused as a result of various factors like trauma, disease, or congenital limb deficiencies. In order to take these amputees back to daily life, below knee prostheses are used as an alternate to original limb. Comfort and patients’ satisfaction with prostheses are directly related to each prost...

Conservative Bone Cuts and Technical Hints Incruciate Retaining Total Knee Arthroplasty, a 20 Years Experience

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most successful procedures in modern orthopedic surgery, providing high patient satisfaction rate. As a result, the number of patients undergoing TKA is increasing in number every year and more patients would be inclined to have the operation in near future . The demand for TKA is expected to grow 673% between 2005 and 2030. Knee surgeons are using mo...

Effects of Prosthesis Mass on Hip Energetics, Prosthetic Knee Torque, and Prosthetic Knee Stiffness and Damping Parameters Required for Transfemoral Amputees to Walk

We quantify how the hip energetics and knee torque required for an above-knee prosthesis user to walk with the kinematics of able-bodied humans vary with the inertial properties of the prosthesis. We also select and optimize passive mechanical components for a prosthetic knee to accurately reproduce the required knee torque. Previous theoretical studies have typically investigated the effects o...
